Sukabumi is a city in West Java. It is located at the south west cape of Java. Sukabumi may refer to two different locations. The first one is Kabupaten Sukabumi district, and the second one is Kotamadya Sukabumi town. The two of them have their own different governments. Sukabumi town is located inside the Sukabumi district. Sukabumi is located between Bogor and Cianjur A train passing in Sukabumi. Get in[edit] There are several ways how you can reach Sukabumi. Moreover, eventhough Sukabumi is not a metropolitan area, it has a good score regarding to transport facilities. To get into Sukabumi, you can go either from Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, or even Bali. From Jakarta[edit] If you travel from Jakarta, it is easier for you to start the journey from major Bus Terminal. You can either go to Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Kali Deres Terminal or Lebak Bulus Terminal. There you may ask the officers how to get to Sukabumi, by just saying "Sukabumi?". He will understand what you mean. To make sure, every bus has their destination route written on the front. For now, the common bus companies that serve Jakarta-Sukabumi route are Parung Indah, Langgeng Jaya, or Pandu Jaya. Most of them are economy class. The ticket fare for Jakarta-Sukabumi buses is about IDR 15000 to IDR 30000 USD to USD depends on the class. The journey will take about 3-5 hours, depends on the traffic. You also can go by train. From any train station in Jakarta, try to make a journey to Bogor station, then continue to another train that directs to Sukabumi. From Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng[edit] From Jakarta International Airport, take a DAMRI bus to Bogor. It will cost you about IDR 30000 USD then follow the instruction on how to get to Sukabumi from Bogor. The journey will take about 1 hour. From Bogor[edit] If you travel from Bogor, there are several alternatives to reach Sukabumi. The most common and practical transport is what they called Kol. It refers to L300 Colt Mitsubishi minibuses that exclusively serve Bogor-Sukabumi journey. You can hop on to a Kol either around Baranangsiang Terminal or Botanical Square. Botanical Square is where you hop off from DAMRI buses from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Kol will cost you about IDR 20000 USD The journey will take about 2 hours. Another alternative if you are an adventurer, you may try the train. It is called "Bumi Geulis" train. The journey will take about 2 hours and 45 minutes, but the scenery you can capture from this train is beautiful. You just have to make sure the schedule of the train from Bogor to Sukabumi, because it is not available all the day. The train starts from Sukabumi to Bogor at and arrives in Bogor after around two hours and it backs from Bogor to Sukabumi at Although the local government has added the schedule. From Bandung[edit] From bandung, you can reach Sukabumi by bus. There are plenty bus companies that serve this route, such as MGI, Sangkuriang, Langgeng Jaya, Hiba Utama, etc. Just make sure you start the journey from major bus terminal, such as Leuwi Panjang Terminal. The bus will cost you about IDR 30000 USD The journey will take about 2-3 hours. From Yogyakarta, Solo and Semarang[edit] From Yogyakarta and other cities in Central Java, you may use buses or trains. There are several bus companies that serve this route, such as Rajawali and Kramat Jati. It will cost you about IDR 150000 USD. The journey will take about 12 hours, directly to Sukabumi terminal. Trains will only take you to Bandung, then from Bandung, you may continue to Sukabumi by bus. From Surabaya and Bali[edit] There is no direct connection between cities in East Java or Bali and Sukabumi. All you have to do is to go by plane or bus to the cities that has been explained before, either Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandung or Jakarta, then continue to Sukabumi. Get around[edit] Common transport in Sukabumi is called Angkot Angkutan Kota, however there are several options such as delman, ojek, and buses for distant places. The Palabuhanratu area, a favorite weekend surfing destination for expatriates and a growing number of Indonesian surfers based in Jakarta, is the most crowded of West Java's surfing grounds due to sheer ease of accessibility. Most of the surf pounded beaches in the Palabuhanratu resort area-also called Samudra Beach are just that pure beachpound, featuring vicious riptides and big walls of water with nowhere to go. Most surfers skip this non-directional stuff and head a few kilometers due west to the sleepy fishing and rice-growing village known as Cimaja, or Cimaja Beach. The Cimaja break, a right that rises off a rocky reef, is reached by walking about 300 meters from the main road through beachfront sawah rice paddies. This spot is consistently surf able because it has a solid and angular rock bottom perfectly attuned to south and southwest swells rising out of the Indian Ocean. Ujung Genteng is a peninsular south of Sukabumi, still in its pristine state and a magnet for tourists now from Jakarta seeking "a back to nature" experience. Ombak Tujuh, however is probably one of the most famous surfing beaches in Indonesia, well know for its extreme surfing and perfect curling waves, it is always advisable to surf in pairs however for safety. Ujung Genteng is still a quiet village, not yet overcrowded with tourist and a very different experience to Pelabuhan Ratu, which is where many surfers go, Ujung Genteng's surfing is far superior and for the fanatical surfer is much better. The nightlife there is very quiet though, except for some entertainment at The Hotel there. Food is also fairly difficult, except for some basic local food. I guess if it was as famous as Pelabuhan ratu, it would of course lose its appeal as a natural retreat for those seeking a little more adventure. Mostly are Sundanese style, but there are several typical traditional food in Sukabumi which are very famous, such as Mochi, Bangket, Pavinder cake, Martabak Bandung and nutmeg candy. Drink[edit] Sleep[edit] If you need to stop overnight in Sukabumi town, there are some cheap places available not far from the bus terminal, just ask the people around, or ojek drivers near the bus station who will be happy to transport you there for Rp 5,000-10,000. Expect to pay around Rp 50,000 for a basic fan air conditioning is not needed anyway, as nights in Sukabumi may be quite cold room.
